PHILOSOPHY Winters’ Wonderland is a safe, comfortable learning environment where we do the extra little things to make this a fun, memorable, and educational experience for both the children and the parents. GOALS At Winters’ Wonderland we strive to offer the best preschool in Redmond by offering curriculums and other extras that make our program unlike any other for any price in the Central Oregon area. The curriculum assists your child to develop and enhance social skills, listening skills, comprehension and language development. The curriculum focuses on social interactions by learning to play, work and communicate with other children through: shared story time, play time and group activities. The children are encouraged to cooperate and interact with adults and other children. In addition, children are encouraged to develop their fine motor, listening and school readiness skills. They are given an introduction to color, number and letter recognition through activities designed to promote early literacy skills in math and language. Group times and circle times include opportunities for singing, art activities, movement, stories, and sharing. The curriculum programs are based on a whole-child philosophy. We teach materials that address all aspects of development: social, emotional, cognitive, and physical. We emphasize a blend of teacher-facilitated and child-initiated activities. Every year our curriculum programs are rewritten to meet the changing needs of children, and to keep the material fresh and up-to-date and taking into account state and national early childhood learning standards. STAFF Miss Traci has been lovingly working in daycare and preschool settings for 13 years. She is a licensed Early Childhood Educator who is actively engaged in continuing education and maintains first aid and CPR certification.
OUR CURRICULUMS Ø Preschool Curriculum: The focus of our preschool curriculum is to prepare children socially, emotionally and academically for the many challenges that elementary school brings. We believe in a developmentally appropriate curriculum for children two to five years of age, presented in an environment which fosters the individual child's emotional, social, physical, and cognitive skills. We create an environment that supports and develops a love of learning, respect, cooperation, leadership, an ability to make choices, pride in individual accomplishments and problem solving skills. Our goal is to promote learning through the joy of discovery. Children, supported by Miss Traci, are constantly thinking, exploring, experiencing, learning and testing new skills, and creating good habits for a lifetime of learning. As children grow and develop in our program, they are both nurtured and challenged as they move towards the greater independence that elementary school brings. Ø Health and Exercise Curriculum for Preschoolers: Our preschool physical education program is designed to instill healthy lifestyle habits in children ages 2-5. Sound eating, regular exercise, rest and personal safety are all part of a healthy lifestyle. Small children are taught all about their bodies and how they work. Topics such as the heart, lungs, muscles, bones, brain, mouth and nutrition are a regular part of the program. Specifically, the our curriculum incorporates movement and preschool fitness activities such as aerobics, dance, stretching, gymnastics sports, strengthening exercises, gross motor skills and balance. Children learn about overall health, diet, nutrition, healthy food choices and fitness. The curriculum helps preschoolers develop self esteem and positive associations with exercise, healthy eating and rest. The ultimate goal of the program is to emphasize the importance of good health and wellness habits. Through physical education children learn, in a fun way, how to take care of their bodies for a lifetime of good health. Ø Customized Preschool Spanish Introduction Curriculum : This program utilizes a multisensory approach that teaches academic and social language skills through games, music, art, role-playing, and spontaneous conversation. This approach assures that the diverse modalities of the class are being addressed, so that each student is engaged and learning. We believe that the most important element in teaching children a second language is to provide a creative and nurturing learning environment that builds self esteem and confidence in each child. The multicultural curriculum stresses the importance of respecting and appreciating diverse cultures.
